ZALUN MYO & MAHN AUNG MYIN BUDDHA IMAGE

Zalun is a small town located in the Irrawaddy Region, west bank of Irrawaddy river located about 50 miles from Yangon. For Myanmar Buddhists, a visit to Zalun is a holy pilgrimage.
The Maha Mahn Aung Myin Buddha Image was said to have been cast in Rakhine State in Buddha time on the orders of King Sandar Suriya at the same times as four other images. The first to be cast was famed the Mahar Muni Buddha now at Mandalay. From the remaining metal the second image to be cast was known as Shin Kyaw now at Rakhine, the third as Shwe Bonthar now at Pyay and the fourth, the Mahn Aung Myin Image.
In the year 1785 A.D, Myanmar King Bodawpaya, his Crown Prince conquered Rakhine and the above four buddha images was ordered to be brought to the capital Amarapura. The fourth, Mahn Aung Myin Buddha Image was requested to take Zakun as a temporary by Zalun village cheif U Shwe Pwint who is relative of a queen. Just after arriving Zalun, lower Burma was occupied by British colonists and brought the statute to India for melting and making ammunitions.
The Queen of England arrived India and often had headaches and nightmares because of that statute. So, the Queen ordered her soldiers to return it back to Myanmar. Buddha image was send back to original place along Irrawaddy river. Then, the Queen recovered from the pains. That is why it is also known as Zalun Pyidawpyan Pagoda (Returning Buddha Image).
