Yangon War Cemetery

Yangon war cemetery , a little-known war cemetery is located on Barwanar street, in Sanchaung township, close to the Hantha Waddy roundabout ( 3 min walk from roundabout). The entrance to the cemetery is in a lane facing east along Pyai road near Hanthawaddy bus stop. The small entrance is a little hard to find and there is no signs or indications on the road.

The cemetery is firstly dedicated to fallen commonwealth servicemen in World War II and built in May, 1945. There are now 1,381 buried or commemorated in this cemetery. 86 of the burials are unidentified. In 1948, the graves of 36 Commonwealth servicemen who died in Rangoon during the First World War were moved into this cemetery.

The cemetery is managed by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. It is a peaceful and well maintained memorial garden in busy downtown of Yangon. Reading the letters (Epitaphs) on the tombs made me many feelings and thoughts of the rest families of fallen soldiers , themselves and their countries.

ရန်ကုန်မြို့ရဲ့ လူစည်ကားရာ မြို့လယ၊် ဟံသာဝတီ အဝိုင်း အနီးမှ လူသိနည်းသော ရန်ကုန် စစ်သချုၤင်း အကြောင်းကို မျှေ၀ ပေးလို ပါသည်။ ရန်ကုန် စစ်သချုၤင်းသည် စမ်းချောင်းမြို့နယ်၊ ဘာဝနာ လမ်းပေါ်တွင် တည်ရှိပြီး ဟံသာဝတီ အဝိုင်းမှ ၃ မိနစ်ခန့် လမ်းလျှောက် ရုံဖြင့် ရောက်ရှိ နိုင်ပါသည်။ စစ်သင်္ချုင်း အဝင်ဝသည် အရှေ့ဘက်ရှိ ပြည်လမ်းပေါ်ကို မျက်နှာ မူထားပြီး လမ်းသွယ် လေးဖြင့် ပြည်လမ်း ဟံသာဝတီ မှတ်တိုင် အနီးကို ဆက်သွယ် ထားပါသည်။ မည်သည့် လမ်းညွှန် ဆိုင်းဘုတ်၊ လမ်း အမည်မျှပင် တပ်ဆင် ထားခြင်း မရှိသဖြင့် ရှာဖွေရန် အနည်းငယ် ခက်ခဲ ပါသည်။

စစ်သချုၤင်းသည် အစပထမတွင် ဒုတိယကမ္ဘာစစ် အတွင်း ကျဆုံး ခဲ့သော ဓနသဟာရ စစ်သည်များ အတွက် ရည်ရွယ်၍ ၁၉၄၅ ခုနှစ် မေလ တွင် ဆောက်လုပ် ခဲ့ပါသည်။ စစ်သချုၤင်းတွင် ကျောက်သား အုတ်ဂူပေါင်း ၁၃၈၁ခု ရှိပြီး ၈၁ခု ကတော့ ကျဆုံးသူများကို မခွဲခြားနိုင်ပါ။ ထို့နောက် ၁၉၄၈ ခုနှစ်တွင် ပထမ ကမ္ဘာစစ် အတွင်း ရန်ကုန်မြို့တွင် ကျဆုံး ခဲ့သော ဓနသဟာရ စစ်သည် ၃၆ ဦး ၏ အုတ်ဂူများကိုပါ ထပ်မံပြောင်းရွေ့ခဲ့ပါသည်။

စစ်သင်္ချုင်းအား ဓနသဟာရ စစ်သင်္ချုင်းကော်မရှင်မှ ကြီးကြပ် စီမံခန့်ခွဲ လျှက်ရှိ ပါသည်။ ဆူညံ ရှုပ်ထွေး နေသော ရန်ကုန် မြို့လယ်တွင် ကောင်းမွန်စွာ ထိန်းသိမ်း ထားသော ငြိမ်းချမ်း ဆိတ်ငြိမ်သည့် ပန်းဥယျာဉ် တစ်ခု ကဲ့သို့ပင် ဖြစ်ပါသည်။ အုတ်ဂူပေါ်မှ ကျန်ရစ်သူ မိသားစုများ၏ အမှတ်တရ သင်္ချုင်းစာ များကို လိုက်လံ ဖတ်ရှုခြင်းဖြင့် ကျန်ရစ်သူများ၊ စစ်သည် နှင့် သူ၏ တိုင်းပြည် နှင့်ပတ်သက်၍ ခံစားမှုမျိုးစုံ နှင့် အတွေးများစွာ ဖြစ်ပေါ် လာစေပါသည်။
